The Campaign for Safe and Affordable Drinking Water, a foundation-funded alliance of environmental, consumer, public health, medical, HIV/AIDS, and other organizations housed in the offices of the Clean Water Fund in Washington, D.C., is seeking a talented, full-time Coordinator. The Coordinator helps to build participation in the coalition and coordinate the Campaign Steering Committee and its state and national drinking water campaign. She or he also works with coalition partners to analyze and propose improved national and state drinking water policies. The Coordinator's goal is to build and nurture the Campaign's grassroots network and to assist the Campaign and its member organizations and allies to track, translate, communicate and coordinate efforts to improve regulations, policy and funding decisions, to better protect drinking water and source water.

Responsibilities:
The National Drinking Water Alliance Coordinator's major responsibilities may include:
  • Helping to build, broaden, and activate the coalition through active, ongoing outreach to diverse new participants;
  • Monitoring EPA and key state drinking water implementation activities and facilitating both analysis and participation in these activities in DC and in key states;
  • Planning & coordinating regular steering committee meetings;
  • Writing educational materials for print and web dissemination, and communicating with the press;
  • Drafting action alerts, a bimonthly newsletter, and maintaining membership database;
  • Coordinating special projects, including report preparation and release and regional/national workshops;
  • Assisting in foundation fundraising for the Campaign.
Desirable Qualifications:
Qualifications include:
  • Two or more years of grassroots organizing or campaign experience in environmental, public health, or other social/economic justice group. Experience working with media is also helpful.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to actively recruit and energize grassroots group participation in Campaign activity.
  • Program administration and project management skills.
  • Ability to research problems and analyze policies, solutions, and strategies.
  • Presentation and training skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, especially working under deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and activists.
  • Successful experience working with boards of directors and/or steering committees.
  • Proficiency with databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and list serves.
  • Initiative and willingness to work as part of a team to do what is necessary to get the job done in a fast-paced work environment, which will sometimes involve evenings, weekends, and travel.
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience, plus benefits package.
